Muse Monday: The internet, a writer’s best frenemy

A few weeks ago, I told my husband that I wasn’t sure if the internet was the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. Especially when you’re talking in terms of writing a book. On one hand, it’s fantastic! For example: if you, as a carnivore, aren’t sure exactly what the difference between “vegetarian” and “vegan” is, you can look it up in less than thirty seconds. That’s beautiful. On the other hand, if you’re not incredibly motivated to go right back to typing, you might find yourself in a grocery store picking up the ingredients for that vegan butternut squash soup that just sounded so good. And there goes your productive day of typing.

Over the weekend, I came across this:

YouTube

Aside from a punctuation error or two, that seems to be the downfall of the internet in general.

I’ve never found myself watching a tutorial on how to talk to a giraffe. However, I have to tell you that a big part of me wants to look it up and see if there’s even a video like that. I have this sinking feeling that there is, and that it would be fascinating.

No! I’m stronger than that! I will not fall into the black hole of distraction! Well, maybe just one video. Just for a minute. Or two. Oh, boy. I feel the irresistible pull of the internet. Must resist…must be strong…must do typing…

Oh, look! Another video!
