Memorial Day

I’m taking a break from my usual schedule to do a Memorial Day piece.

This year, I’ve seen quite a few posts that remind us today isn’t National Barbecue Day, or National Grilling Day. It’s Memorial Day.

Sadly, I’ve been to a military funeral. I lost a family member in the fight for our continued freedom. Today, I live close to a national cemetery. Very close. If the weather’s right, I can hear the bugle or the bagpipes. I often hear the twenty-one gun salutes. It gives me a chill every time.

If you have the time, I would highly recommend that you look up the song “Arlington” by Trace Adkins. He does a wonderful job of singing the meaning of Memorial Day.

To all of the service men and women out there: thank you. To the wives, husbands, parents, siblings, and children who stay behind to wait and pray: thank you. And to the ones who paid the ultimate price: I can’t thank you enough.

Happy Memorial Day!
